SANDY ACRES 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

SATURDAY MAY 11TH 2024 2pm – 5:30pm

At Sandy Acres Camp Site Shedfield

History

Sandy Acres was purchased from the landowner Mr Phillimore in 1974 to enable the Guides and Brownies primarily from the two Portsmouth Divisions to benefit from the countryside. The land area is 8.089 acres and fronts onto Sandy Lane.

Badgers Lodge opened in 2010: it replaced a wooden building. It was built will the aid of grants and fundraising.

The above event is for all Guiders, supporters and any County members who have used the site in the past or are using it now. The committee will organise the event which will include memorabilia a short entertainment, cream tea and a camp fire. The cost will be £5 and application forms will be out in the New Year via the County.

Other events for this birthday year will include:

  • The Portsmouth Divisions are organising a camp/ fun weekend for all Guiding members in Portsmouth.
  • The County Outdoor team are organising a camp for County Guiders, Guides and Rangers over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
  • We have two winners from the Badge Competition, one Brownie and one Guide. The designs are with our supplier and we hope to have them on sale at the end of January. The names of the winners will be announced once we receive the badges.

To keep a campsite open for 50 years is a great achievement and we hope as many of you as possible will join in our celebrations.
